Why get a Registered Psychiatric Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree?

Why take the RPN to BScN program?

This two-year program is designed for Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs) who have graduated from an approved Psychiatric Nursing diploma program the opportunity to complete a BScN degree at the University of Alberta. This program can be taken in Edmonton or Camrose.

We also offer a BScN bilingual program and a BScN program.

Marnie is a recent graduate of the Nursing Honors program and was President of the Nursing Undergraduate Association. She's also a volunteer nurse and a Special Olympics coach.

Preprofessional Study Time: Graduation from a psychiatric nursing program

Subject Requirements ( = units of course weight)
  1. Human Physiology (6)
  2. Sociology or Anthropology (3)
  3. English (3)

Admission Selection: An Admission GPA of at least 3.0 or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

  • Proof of current registration with a provincial psychiatric association and eligibility to register with the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Alberta
  • Spoken English Language proficiency
  • Submission of the CASPer test is required to be evaluated for Admission to the program. More information on the CASPer test requirement, dates and deadlines can be found at CASPer
