Faculty of Native Studies

  • We are student centered, with opportunities for undergraduate students to participate in research-based projects
  • Courses incorporate traditional Indigenous knowledge and heritage as well as contemporary Native Peoples’ experiences
  • Program requirements include rigorous research methods courses that prepare students for careers in the field and/or graduate-level research programs
  • Guest lectures feature representatives from various Aboriginal communities and organizations, including Elders
  • An annually hosted “Research Day” gives undergraduate students the opportunity to share their research projects with the larger university community, Aboriginal communities, and the city of Edmonton at large
  • Canada’s only independent Faculty of Native Studies, with a diverse student population, small class sizes, and a close-knit academic community of students, staff, and professors
  • Special student gatherings include tea with the Dean, tea and bannock potlucks, student awards ceremonies, and the annual tipi raising and take-down
