Why study Dental Hygiene at the University of Alberta?
The School of Dentistry at the University of Alberta offers a fully accredited program, with state-of-the-art facilities including a full-service dental clinic. We also value giving back and community involvement: our Dental Hygiene students become community partners early in their learning by volunteering with non-profit organizations, going on Global Missions, working with children and seniors, and providing services to the public.

Important information about admission to the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry
There is no direct entry from high school into the Bachelor of Science Dental Hygiene Specialization program. Students will first need to complete a year of university study and complete courses in English, introductory chemistry, organic chemistry, sociology, psychology, statistics and biology.
Note: Applicants to the Bachelor of Science (Dental Hygiene Specialization) program must apply using the online application.
At least 1 year of transferable, postsecondary, full-time study required (★30, of which ★24 must be taken full-time in one Fall/Winter) (★ = units of course weight).
Students currently enrolled in the University of Alberta Dental Hygiene Diploma program have the opportunity to complete the Bachelor of Science (Dental Hygiene Specialization) if they successfully complete the three-year diploma program with a minimum GPA of 2.0, and also successfully complete the National Dental Hygiene Certification Board Examination (Canadian).
Provisions: None of the courses used toward the Bachelor of Science (Dental Hygiene Specialization) requirement have been used for credit toward another degree.

In order to be competitive, applicants should strive for a GPA of 3.0. Students with a GPA of less than 2.7 will not be considered.
