With this degree, you can go on to practice as a Registered Dietitian or Registered Nutritionist in Alberta.

Carley-Jane recently completed a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, with a major in Agricultural and Resource Economics. As a UAlberta student, Carley-Jane received the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship, at Oxford University, where she plans to pursue an MSc in Environmental Change and Management.

Preprofessional Study Time: Normally one year in Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Science, Nutrition and Food General Program. A minimum of ★27, ★30 preferred (★ = units of course weight) transferable to the program

Additional Requirements:

  1. Letter of Intent: Applicants must submit a letter with their application for admission stating their career goals, knowledge of the profession, related experience, and reasons for seeking admission to the Dietetics Specialization. Prospective students should have spoken with a Registered Dietitian and undertaken significant career exploration prior to seeking admission
  2. Interview: The interview evaluates the applicant's maturity, initiative, ability to communicate, leadership skills and critical thinking abilities.
  3. Letters of Reference
  4. Spoken English language proficiency 

Admission Selection: 

  1. Interview Process: Interview selection is based on academic achievement in the prerequisite courses, overall academic achievement (emphasizing recent academic performance), and the content and format of their Letter of Intent.
  2. Admissions Formula: Applicants are ranked on their academic achievement in the prerequisite courses; overall academic achievement (emphasizing recent academic performance); the content and format of their Letter of Intent; the strength of their letters of reference and their performance in the interview process.
